Suspended ceiling types explained: which grid system is right for your project?
Published 15 Jan 2026
Choosing the right suspended ceiling system affects everything from acoustic comfort to maintenance access and how quickly you can hand the space over. On commercial schemes across Teesside, Durham, and wider Yorkshire, we install three main families of ceiling — each with distinct advantages.
Metal furring (MF) systems support plasterboard ceilings that can follow curved layouts, incorporate bulkheads, and achieve a seamless premium finish. They are ideal for reception areas, boardrooms, and retail flagships where aesthetics matter as much as compliance.
The workhorse of office fit-out. Standard 600×600 grids with mineral fibre tiles offer strong value, good acoustics, and straightforward tile replacement. We align grids with lighting modules and diffusers so the finished ceiling looks intentional, not accidental.
Clip-in systems suit areas needing frequent access above the ceiling or a more refined visual line. Hygiene-rated panels are common in healthcare and food production; perforated metal panels can support raft lighting layouts.
